Opta insight: Will the 2020s see the end of Big Six era of Premier League dominance?

With Arsenal in 10th place in the Premier League and Manchester United below Sheffield United in seventh, the status of the Big Six as the division's dominant forces has rarely felt under such threat. The Gunners are three points closer to the relegation zone than the Champions League places and the Blades, Wolves and Leicester are seriously threatening the status quo. So are we set for the end of the Big Six era? Has it actually been better than what went before it? And would a new power dynamic at the top be a good thing? https://sportsuptodate.net/

Premier League fans face league-wide ban for 'unacceptable' behaviour

Fans who behave in an "unacceptable" manner towards players, supporters, club employees or referees will face a Premier League-wide ban. At a shareholders' meeting in London on Thursday, the Premier League said anyone banned by a single club will be banned by all 20 clubs. The Cheshire home of Manchester United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward was attacked by a group of fans last month. They chanted that he was "going to die" and a flare was thrown into the garden. The house was empty at the time. Some United fans sang the same song during recent games against Burnley and Tranmere. "Following recent events, the 20 clubs committed to introducing a league-wide ban for anyone banned by their club for discriminatory, abusive or violent acts," the Premier League said in a statement. "Unacceptable conduct towards players, fans, club employees or referees will not be tolerated by the Premier League or its clubs." https://www.spor...

Premier League predictions: Lawro v British snowboarder Katie Ormerod

The first Premier League winter break is upon us, with 10 games staggered over the next two weeks. There are only four matches this weekend, but they could prove pivotal in the race to avoid relegation, with four of the bottom six involved before they head to the beach, or a warm-weather training camp. BBC football expert Mark Lawrenson said: "For all the struggling teams, winning this weekend and heading off on holiday on the back of a positive result would make a massive difference. "It would be a big boost of confidence for the fans, players and the manager - everyone at the club." https://www.sportstradingedge.com/

Ricky van Wolfswinkel: Basel striker returns to training

Dutch striker Ricky van Wolfswinkel has returned to full training with Basel seven months after beginning treatment for a brain aneurysm. The condition was only discovered in August after the 31-year-old had scans following a concussion. "The therapy went according to plan," read a statement on the Basel website. The ex-Norwich striker posted a video of his return to training on social media, along with the caption: "I am. Back. Ready. Proud. Lets do this!" An aneurysm is a balloon-like bulge in a blood vessel caused by a weakness in the blood vessel wall. If a brain aneurysm bursts it causes a subarachnoid haemorrhage, which can be fatal or cause extensive brain damage. https://www.sportstradingedge.com/
